Celebrities are known for being, well, eccentric to say the least. Everything they do from how they dress to how they speak is ostentatious, and that includes what many of them name their children. Now, we would never hate on a young child, but some of these Hollywood A-listers have really gone in a strange direction when choosing a name for their kids. While some are more mild, others really take it to the extreme (just Google ‘Elon Musk baby name’ and you’ll see what we mean).
Here are some of the most out-there baby names that big-time celebrities chose, on their own, to give to their children. The last one is really insane.
1. Elon Musk Baby Name – X Æ A-Xii
No, you’re not going insane and you don’t need glasses. The name you see above is the latest child of Elon Musk and his most recent partner, Grimes. Elon Musk was already the father of 6 other children before his partner gave birth to the 7th child. The names of Elon Musk’s children were already quite exotic, but none compared to his latest son.
Upon his birth, Musk announced to the public that his son would be named X Æ A-12. The name was so out-there that the state of California deemed it illegal, as ‘12’ is not a letter character. The couple later changed it to the Roman Numeral 12, hence X Æ A-Xii. The public was rightfully confused at the pronunciation of this name, and we still aren’t 100% sure. Elon Musk did feature on a Joe Rogan podcast where he told us that the X was pronounced as you would say the letter (ex), and the Æ was pronounced ‘Ash’, followed by A and 12. Go figure.
2. Bear Grylls Kids Names – Huckleberry and Marmaduke
Bear Grylls is probably best known for his outdoor survival adventures in the wilderness on his hit show Man Vs. Wild. So, knowing what an eccentric type of character he is, it’s not surprising that he would choose some unusual names for his children. What DID surprise us, however, is that the names he chose for his kids sound like fantasy characters.
His two youngest boys, Marmaduke (born in 2006) and Huckleberry (born in 2009) have pretty wild names. However, Bear actually has 3 children. His oldest son was born right after Bear graduated from college, a few years before his show took off and he got famous. The son born before fame is named, simply, Jesse.
3. Frank Zappa Kids Names – Moon Unit, Dweezil, Diva Muffin, and Ahmet
Rock Legend Frank Zappa was not known for being a quiet presence in the Rock and Roll scene. He changed the face of Rock with his incredible musical talents that were largely experimental and improvisational. Basically, he wanted to stand out from the crowd, which he successfully did. However, his music wasn’t the only super-eccentric stance he took.
Zappa had four children, and he made sure to name them according to his non-conformist, anti-establishment views. His children are Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, and Diva Muffin. Yes, these are very strange names, but the four children actually went on to be quite successful, and actually had a very good relationship with their eccentric papa.
